Fun Times on the Playground at The Tree House New Teacher Spotlight Samantha Catalano We would like to welcome our new teacher, Miss Samantha, to The Tree House. Miss Samantha will be working in the One year old classroom. She has recently moved back to the East Liverpool area from Cleveland, Ohio, where she attended Cleveland State University. Miss Samantha is now pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Youngstown State University. Samantha’s favorite color is pink and her favorite part about working with children is being a part of their day to day growth and witnessing how they change everyday! Cinco De Mayo Celebration By: Maura Meeder, Wee School Teacher On may 5th, 2014 the Wee School Class celebrated Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for May the 5th and commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It is considered a Mexican-American holiday and is celebrated in both countries. In honor of Cinco de Mayo, the Wee School class created sombreros, learned how to count to ten in Spanish, learned several other Spanish words, and created maracas. Once the students completed all of their projects, they paraded through the classrooms of The Tree House wearing their sombreros and shaking their maracas. Cinco de Mayo was a fun and educational holiday that will be celebrated every year at The Tree House.
