The Old Pocklingtonian Careers and Awards Royal College of Music Scholarship for Olivia Following competitive auditions, talented soprano Olivia Turner (06-13) was offered scholarships at The Royal College of Music, The Royal Academy of Music and The Royal Scottish Conservatoire to study Vocal Studies commencing September 2015. After much deliberation she has just accepted the scholarship at The Royal College of Music. Martin Kettlewell, Director of Music at Pocklington School, commented: “I am delighted with the news of Olivia’s scholarship award. She is a very talented young lady; we are all very proud of her and look forward to seeing her career flourish at the Royal College.” Olivia passed her Dip.LCM as a singer whilst in the 6th form at Pocklington; achieved grade 8 with distinction on piano; grade 8 with merit on clarinet; and has passed grade 8 on alto saxophone. She was a key member of the School’s Chamber Choir and performed in concerts in School as well as in York Minster and Beverley Minster. She took part in major choral concerts in the wider community, singing works including Faure’s Requiem and Mozart’s Requiem. She additionally performed solos in performances of Carmina Burana and Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate. Olivia won prestigious music festivals in Cottingham, Harrogate, Huddersfield and Sheffield, as well as being runner-up in the Rotary National Young Musician of the Year competition. Olivia is scheduled to sing at the forthcoming OP London dinner in November.
