OP TENNIS AND THE 4TH
EDMUND-LOTEN INSPIRE
TROPHY
Over 20 players competed in either the Men’s
Pocklington School 1st team v OPs match or the
Edmund-Loten Inspire trophy in glorious tennis
weather!
The “traditional” match went the way of the school
side for the first time in many years, due mainly
to the “rusty racquets” of some of the OP team!
In a closely-fought battle, the school side triumphed
by 4 sets to 2, with first pair Ed Dare & Charlie
Medforth winning all their sets against the OP team
of John Rosendale (70-78) and Tim Russell (68-
78), and Hugh Robinson (04-14) and Trevor
Loten (70-80).
The first semi-final saw OPs Neil McGregor (76-
81) and Rachel Clark (née Sweeting, 91-96)
defeat Patrick Dare (staff) and Charlotte Atkinson
(neé Flint, 97-08).
In the Edmund-Loten Trophy there was the usual
mix of OPs, pupils, staff and parents for a “fun”
afternoon’s tennis played in two groups, although
things always become a little more serious when
players reach the semi-finals! In the second semi-final, the 2016 winners, father and
daughter pairing of Stuart (former parent) and Olivia
Turner (06-13) got the better of Ian and Cameron
THE 7TH ANNUAL
POCKLINGTONIAN GOLF DAY were prizes for nearest the pin, nearest the pin in
two and the longest drive. Here are the results:
Only three points separated the top three teams in
this year’s Pocklingtonian Golf Day held at The Oaks
Golf Club on Friday 8 June 2018. In the end, the
Warrendale Farms team edged it by a single point to
claim the Tom Nash President’s Cup for the second
time in the event’s history.
The golf day was supported by family-run car
dealership SG Petch who sponsored the hole in one
competition to win a Fiat 500 and other exciting
prizes including golf mini-breaks and golf clubs. As
well as the Fiat 500, SG Petch showcased the new
‘Stinger’ model from Kia, although it wasn’t on the list
of prizes this time!
Thirteen teams of current and former parents,
OPs and staff took part in the competition from a
two-tee start. After the rounds, supper was served
in the clubhouse and Trevor Loten (70-80), OP
President, said a few words of thanks and presented
the prizes. As well as the main competition, there
OP GOLF SOCIETY:
BIRKDALE BUCKET 2018
OPs flew the flag for Pocklington School at the
Birkdale Bucket Golf Competition. Despite snowy
weather, the gentlemen performed well and
returned home with a Bucket and Spade!
Although the Old Pocklingtonian team was light in
numbers with just five players made up of Mike
Strong (66-76), Dave Morgan (68-75), Larry
Lawson (70-77), Tim Russell (68-78) and Mark
Addison (69-76), they were keen to improve on
last year’s second place.
The competition was played in the worst conditions
Campbell (current parent and Year 6 pupil).
Earlier, Stuart and Olivia had defeated Neil and
Rachel in the group stage, but the result was reversed
in an exciting final as Neil and Rachel triumphed 5-2
to round off another excellent event.

Pleasingly, not only did the Old Pocklingtonians
