DEVELOPMENT AND SCHOOL NEWS
CREATIVITY ON DISPLAY AT OPEN DAY
At the end of the summer term, the school welcomed special guests to its first
Open Day in the Art and Design Technology Centre. Over 30 Campaign donors
and governors came to the event, where they enjoyed seeing classes in action
and a special display of work produced by this year’s A level and GCSE entrants.
Since the centre was officially opened in May 2018, students and staff have made
full use of the new facility, creating and displaying a huge variety of artwork,
photography and DT projects. Guests remarked on the outstanding quality,
imagination and skill demonstrated by the students and the high standard of
creativity which shone through in the exhibition.
Headmaster Toby Seth, commented: “The tremendous support offered by
members of the Pocklington School community has assisted in the creation of
an Art and Design Centre that helps motivate and engage our pupils in two key
subject areas. Whenever I walk into the building I see teachers and pupils working
in concert to great effect; the whole building has a buzz about it that is infectious
and energising.”
EGGLESTON FAMILY CELEBRATE
LONG ASSOCIATION WITH
POCKLINGTON SCHOOL
Mark Eggleston and members of his family
visited the school to unveil a new trophy cabinet
which they had kindly donated in celebration of
the long association the Eggleston family have
had with Pocklington School.
Mark’s father Michael joined the School in 1940
and the last of six cousins left in 2017. During
that time, the Egglestons have been wonderful
supporters of Dolman house. The new trophy
cabinet features a plaque celebrating the
family’s involvement with Dolman and displays
a range of silverware competed for across the
school.
Mr Eggleston said: “We are delighted to have
provided the new trophy cabinet for the
school, and that our family name will now be
permanently recognised in a place that current
and future generations of Dolman house
students will see every day.”
1514 LEGACY CLUB
A group of OPs enjoyed lunch in the
School library recently with Headmaster,
Toby Seth, Chair of Governors, Tim
Stephenson (70-79) and External
Relations Director, Sheena McNamee to
discuss the launch of the school’s new
legacy society, the 1514 Club.
Darrell Buttery MBE, School Governor
and former teacher at Pocklington School,
has kindly agreed to be President of the
1514 Club. Darrell spoke passionately to
guests of the importance of supporting
the school by remembering it in their will,
so that more fee assisted places can be
provided for children in the future.

ROYAL ACADEMY
RECOGNITION
A self-portrait by fifth year pupil Danny Ratcliffe
was on show at the prestigious Royal Academy
in London in July and August and is still available
to view online until 31 December as part of
the RA’s Young Artists’ Summer Show.
The painting on an old wooden cupboard
door was selected by a panel of art experts
from more than 6,200 submissions from young
artists aged 7-19 from the UK and beyond.
Art teacher Nikki Robertson said: “This is so
well-deserved after two years of really hard
work from Danny. It is great for him to gain
recognition from an institution as prestigious
as the Royal Academy. I am incredibly proud
of him!”
