CAREERS AND BUSINESS
NETWORK LAUNCH can create a very powerful Careers and Business
Network, which can benefit everyone involved.”
Following a series of workshops with different
stakeholders and building upon the work already
taking place by the OPA and the school’s Careers
and University Advisor, a joint Careers and
Business Network Programme is being launched
this autumn. The programme is designed to
benefit the whole PSF community, particularly
recent OPs, students in the Sixth Form, current
parents and former parents who would like to
be involved with the Foundation. Governors, Life
Patrons, former staff and current staff are also
invited to join in. Whether it is a sixth former who wants to know
what it is like to work in a particular industry, a
graduate OP trying to find their way into their
dream job or a parent seeking someone with
expertise in a specific sector, the opportunities
to help each other are endless.
A dedicated LinkedIn group will act as the central
hub for all communications and OPs, parents etc
will be invited to join a register if they would like
to be part of the Network. There will be a rolling
programme of events, featuring guest speakers,
and regular careers and business network
updates and news items will be posted on the
school and OP websites and on social media. A launch event is being held at school on Monday
27 November at 6.30pm with guest speaker
Martin St Quentin (65-75). If you would like
to attend the event please contact the OP office.
A key part of the programme will be to further
develop the OP Mentor Scheme for current
and former pupils, and to showcase how the
scheme has proved so valuable to recent OPs.
Mark Ronan, Headmaster, said: “With the
common thread of Pocklington School to join
us together, I urge anyone who is interested to
support the Network and help us make it a useful
and successful part of our school community.”
Further details about how to join the new
Careers and Business Network are in the leaflet
enclosed with the magazine, or contact Rachel or
Leanne in the OP office who will be delighted to
send you more information.
Richard Booth (92-02), OP committee
member, commented, “There is a huge amount of
goodwill and experience within the Pocklington
School community and by drawing upon this we
FORMER PUPIL GETS
CREATIVE AS SHE RETURNS
TO POCKLINGTON SCHOOL
Hatty Moor (05-15) worked with current
pupils, shared her university experiences and
produced a promotional video during two
weeks’ work experience in the 2017 Lent
term at school. Now in her third year of a
BA Hons Photography course at Nottingham
Trent University, Hatty jumped at the chance
to spend time back at the school’s Art and
Design department, which inspired her love of
photography and video.
Hatty said: “I thought of Pocklington School
straight away when I learned we had to do some
work experience as part of my course, as I loved
my time there so much. All my A level subjects
were art-based, so I basically spent two years in
the Art Department during the Sixth Form. It
has a really nice atmosphere and the teachers
are so motivating. You can tell they enjoy what
they do.”
Hatty used techniques learned during her
A level Photography course (for which she
achieved an A*), to make a school promotional
video capturing the vibrant and varied days
enjoyed by pupils. Entitled A Day at Pocklington
School, by Hatty Moor, OP, it is available to watch
on YouTube.
Hatty, who recently exhibited her photographs
in an exhibition at Nottingham’s new creative
and digital hub, Sneinton Market, was originally
aiming for a career in forensic photography.
Her return to Pocklington School however, has
prompted a rethink in favour of teaching.
She said: “I like working with people and I had
such a good time being back in the classroom
and helping current pupils that it’s now made me
think of it as a career.”
