Letter from the

NJCL Parliamentarian

Salvēte, amicī!

Since my first NJCL Convention in 2018, I have become immensely invested in the JCL community. I really think there is no better way to spend the last week of July than surrounded by people who share the same passion for learning about the Classics. This passion drove me to run for office at the national level, and if you feel the same then I urge you to run for the 2023-2024 NJCL Executive Board.

There is a lot of work involved with running a campaign at the national convention, but I promise you that it is worth it. Candidates have a unique opportunity to meet with so many different JCLers from across the nation. Delegates will want to chat with you about your platform and your experience. You will give speeches before hundreds of fellow Latin-lovers, and The Convention Ear will feature you in its pages. My most impactful experience in the JCL has been campaigning for national office.

This edition of the Campaign Corner will be your one-stop shop for all things election related. It includes excerpts from the NJCL Constitution, detailing descriptions of each officer’s duties and regulations for campaigning. This year’s board has also provided advice for your campaign, including a new Campaign Analysis section, so you can put your best platform forward.

If you have attended at least ONE national convention, and satisfy the rest of the requirements for running for national office as listed in this Campaign Corner, great! Your next step is to pre-file your candidacy, which you must do by June 15th, 2023.

If you have any questions about running for office, or anything related to elections or parliamentary things, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at [ [email protected] ].

Parliamentarily,
