The Corn Exchange #GenerationZ Family
The people at Dinosaur Zoo had obviously forgotten the old saying
‘Never work with children and big lizards with lots of large pointy teeth’.
The Corn Exchange, Newbury, presents its annual family
festival to kick-start the summer holidays from Thursday
28 July – Saturday 6 August. With a packed programme,
this 10 day festival is for anyone from tiny tots to
teenagers.
Young children and families can meet a host of prehistoric creatures as Dinosaur Zoo (28 – 29 July) brings
a range of life sized dinosaur puppets to Newbury; join
Marty MacDonald and the gang on their latest adventure
in Marty MacDonald’s Toy Machine (1 August) featuring
the voices of CBeebies’ Justin Fletcher and Nicole Davis;
and journey into the forest in Norwich Puppet Theatre’s
adaptation of the whimsical children’s book, Oddly (4
August).
Enjoy a delightful hour of songs and fun with Nick
Cope (30 July), singing about everything from counting
and animals to how plants grow; hear a tale brought to
life in a sensory session of Storytime (5 August); or get
involved in the action with Make & Do: Oddly (4 August),
where you’ll be able to get crafty and create something
exciting themed around the Norwich Puppet Theatre’s
show Oddly.
Children over 6 years old can giggle their socks off
at the Comedy Club 4 Kids (2 August); while imaginative
little ones can try out the Corn Exchange’s regular Youth
Drama clubs in the Mini Youth Drama Taster (5 August)
and the Junior Youth Drama Taster (30 July) sessions.
If your kids are a little bigger and in the double digits,
there’s also plenty on offer during the Festival. Step
on board the pillar-box red van-atorium in Newbury’s
Market Place, where snail mail reigns supreme in Kilter
Theatre’s The Last Post (5 August).
Enjoy an afternoon of contemporary dance in the Youth
Dance Taster Session (4 August) or fun drama games and
character creation in Youth Drama Taster Session (30
July); and check out some great local bands in New:Music
Competition (6 August) as they battle it out for the chance
to win some fantastic prizes.
The Corn Exchange’s 40 seat cinema will show
screenings of Spielberg’s The BFG (PG) during the
festival.
This will include a Relaxed Screening (30 July) for those
on the autism spectrum or children who would benefit from
a more relaxed cinema environment where the lights are
left on and it is fine for anyone to move around or make
noise during the film.
#GenerationZ Family Festival will run from Thursday
28 July – Saturday 6 August. Ticket offers available
and vary, more information can be found at the Corn
Exchange website www.cornexchangenew.com or by
calling the Box Office on 0845 5218 218 (calls cost 2p
per minute plus your telephone company’s access charge).
