In addition to the International Street
Festival, you can also enjoy a number of
other exciting events taking place over
those two weeks.
On August 21, Hillworth Park will host
‘Picnic in the Park’ from midday to 5pm,
where people have the opportunity
to listen to live music from the likes of
Jimmy Moore, Dan Owen, Jasper in the
Company of Others and By the Rivers
whilst relaxing in ‘Devizes’s loveliest
park’. Plus, there is also entertainment
for younger ages, where they can
participate in some circus skills, courtesy
of Clare’s Circus.
In addition, the popular and
traditional ‘Confetti Battle’ will once
again return to the market town on
August 31. A traditional event which
dates back to the early 20th century, the
event starts with confetti cannons firing
into the crowd below. Then, people of
all ages buy small bags of confetti, and
start to ‘attack’ by throwing small pieces
of colourful paper at one another, for
about half an hour. A very messy yet
enjoyable event for all who take part!
As usual, the carnival procession will
also return this year, to parade through
the streets of Devizes on September
2. A vibrant mixture of contemporary
street theatre, music, noise, movement,
and masquerade, the ‘Carnival Parade’
a thrilling and entertaining performance
for all spectators!
Alternatively, you could also enjoy
the ‘Carnival on the Canal’ on Friday
September 2, where you can have a
wonderful evening of entertainment
including music, featuring Dave Curtis,
the Crofton Stokers, and vocalist
Sarah Carrol. Or, you can even enjoy
a ‘Carnival Quiz Night’ on August 25,
where you could be part of a team of
four in a carnival quiz, and a pint at a
licensed bar at Southbrook Infant School.
However, according to DOCA, this
two week event “wouldn’t be possible
without our incredible, dedicated team
of volunteer Festival Makers who are
busy confetti stuffing, brochure selling,
flyer distributing, warm welcoming and
carnival marshalling, among many other
things. If you’d like to join this merry
band just get in touch via our website www.docadevizes.org.uk.”
