Carnival
Two-week carnival phenomenon
returns to the streets of Devizes
By Matt Clark
Since 1999, the Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts
(DOCA) has hosted the International Street Festival,
and has since grown to become one of the biggest free
outdoor art events in the south-west. This fun-crazed
two week festival is going to be returning to the streets
of Devizes from August 21, and it is going to be even
bigger than before.
On August 28 and 29, DOCA will present the
streets of Devizes with a ‘fantastic programme’ for the
International Street Festival this year, and will welcome
some of the best street performers, contemporary
circus acts, dancers, musicians and walkabout shows
‘from across Europe and the UK to amaze, surprise and
entertain audiences’.
This year will also mark the return of festival
favourites Ramshacklicious to the International Street
Festival, with a brand new street theatre show ‘Mr &
Mr Burn’, co-commissioned by DOCA and Glastonbury
Festival. You can expect a stunning array of fire,
music and explosions throughout, with highlights such
as the circus collective Le Cirque Du Platzac, and the
manipulation skills of PanGottic and Circus Geeks, who
will be taking juggling into a different dimension.
The event will also welcome artist Lola Weir this year,
who will be working with older residents to make an
entry together for the Carnival.
Throughout both days, there will also be an array of
delicious food and drinks, including licensed bars, and
crafts available from Festival Stalls.
