New Oxford music store opens its doors in August
Fopp is returning to Oxford ’ s streets as the music store makes a come back after an eight-year absence . The new store will be on Gloucester Green and will feature an intimate acoustic set from Canterbury emo band Moose Blood on August 8 , signing copies of their album ‘ Blush ’ as part of Fopp ’ s first few opening weeks .
As a national brand , Fopp currently has stores in Bristol , Glasgow , London , Manchester , Nottingham , Edinburgh and Cambridge , with the latest Oxford store growing the companies influence in the south . Fopp deal primarily in physical music as well as books and films , providing another haven for the vinyl lover or movie buff .

Supernormal Festival messes with your mind for another year
Supernormal 2016 – the seventh edition of the music and arts festival that consistently ventures beyond the point of sanity in pursuit of the transcendent , kicks off on August 5 . Completing the bill are a rogues gallery of inspirations and iconoclasts in a wide range of different spheres .
Rounding off the music bill are Texas-via-San Francisco ’ s punk legends MDC ( Millions of Dead Cops ) who will be bringing their inflammatory and righteous ire to Friday night , whilst JK Flesh – the dystopian beat-driven brainchild of underground legend and perpetual innovative force Justin Broadrick ( Godflesh / Napalm Death / Techno Animal and Final amongst countless others ) will be levelling the field on Sunday .
Elsewhere , revered British psychedelic institution Ashtray Navigations will take to the stage , with devastating binary hedonists Gum Takes Tooth , harp-wielding ethereal image-breaker Aine O ’ Dwyer and mercurial psych-pop mavericks Knifeworld , alongside treats and terrors the like of Girl Sweat , The Lowest Form , City Hands , Dwellings , Arvind Ganga , Christos Fanaras and Leeds ’ mind-melting duo Guttersnipe . Rick-rolling Rewind sells out
Rewind South returns this year on 19 – 21 August and has quickly sold out , featuring an all-star classic line-up including Rick Astley , Tony Hadley , The Wurzels , The Trevor Horn Band , Toyah and more . Legendary Blitz D . J . Rusty Egan will also be putting together a tribute to Bowie and Prince on the Main Stage before the last act on the Saturday night , meaning the whole experience is bound to be both incredible and emotional .
And the festival fun doesn ’ t stop with the music , with an on-site fun fair and silent disco in the evenings , firework displays , river taxis to take you on a summery jaunt across the water and a huge zone for kids to play in whilst Mum and Dad relax from an evening of partying . There is even an inflatable church !
Neil Cowley Trio come to Oxford
One of Oxford ’ s most impressive churches will host the London based Neil Cowley Trio on November 4 as part of a national tour . The trio – longtime band mates , Neil Cowley , Evan Jenkins on drums and Rex Horan on bass are joined by Brian Eno collaborator Leo Abrahams on guitars and FX plus other guests and a specially designed light show . Together , they present a powerful and captivating musical tale .
Though classically trained as a child , Neil Cowley was firmly on the pop music scene during the 80s with bands such as Brand New Heavies and Zero 7 . In the mid-90s Neil reconnected with his roots and began composing on piano , eventually forming the Neil Cowley Trio . His 2006 debut record ‘ Displaced ’ earned him the BBC Jazz Award for best album . Four highly acclaimed records followed , 2008 ’ s ‘ Louder Louder Stop ’, 2012 ’ s ‘ The Face of Mount Molehill ’, 2010 ’ s ‘ Radio Silence ’ and 2014 ’ s ‘ Touch and Flee ’. New album ‘ Spacebound Apes ’ could quite possibly be Neil ’ s crowning glory .
Club Soda release single ‘ Breathe Relief ’
The new single , by the Oxford-based four piece Club Soda features a driving rhythm section , intricate guitar work and vocals that ‘ float majestically above it all ’.
The song tells a story of ‘ love lost and found ’, whilst building layers of melody and percussion to a finale . The single is being released with an eight-bit music video inspired by early video games , which runs in direct correlation with the song .
This is the first recording that Club Soda has released as a full band , and according to the record company , Breathe Relief has power and subtly which makes it a ‘ must have for your summer 2016 playlist ’.
