Build up some STEAM at
Cornerstone Arts in Didcot
If you’re a budding dancer or you’re interested in learning
the tricks of parkour (also known as free-running) then you
can get a masterclass at the Cornerstone Arts Centre in
Didcot during August.
Join the Cornerstone team outside the Arts Centre
between Friday 5 and Tuesday 9 August as renowned
performance-parkour company The Urban Playground
Team showcase their skills and offer exciting free
workshops for young people.
STEAM (Saturday 6 August, 11am & 2pm) is a dance
performance with a difference; marvel as the team
animate a skeletal scaffold steam locomotive through
scenes inspired by the slapstick comedy of Buster Keaton,
the rooftop chases of James Bond, the train-jacking of the
Wild West, the heartbreak of the first World War, and
the dark future of inner city commuting.
These guys combine contemporary and urban dance
with parkour and physical theatre and are a delight for
audiences of all ages.
And they’ll even teach you how to do it yourself!
Following each performance on August 6, there’s a
free open workshop for anyone over aged 10+. So even
mums and dads can race their children over various items
of street furniture on the walk to school after one of these
masterclasses.
For those aged between 12 and 18 interested in
dancing and wanting to learn more about performanceparkour, there’s a series of more intense two-hour
workshops on 5, 6, 7 and 9 August.
With a chance to perform at the end. Again
participation is free.
Participants will get hands on training from The Urban
Playground Team, and will help devise a scene in Steam
Local Line which they will then perform at Didcot Railway
Centre on Wednesday 10 August.
These workshops are ideal for anyone aged 12-18
who is mad about dancing and performing. They are
totally free (did we mention that?) and not to be missed.
