Since taking office, the Attorney General has held numerous meetings with community groups and law enforcement leaders including NJSACOP and longtime Executive Director Mitch Sklar.
AG Davenport credits Director Sklar and the Executive Board with leading the way on some of the state’ s modern policing initiatives, a partnership she expects will continue throughout her tenure as she focuses on how cooperation and collaboration between her office and others can best serve the state’ s 9.5 million residents.
“ My north star has always been bringing people together and listening to them. I will continue to do that each and every day,” she said.
Jennifer Davenport became the Acting Attorney General of New Jersey on January 20, 2026, following her nomination by Gov. Mikie Sherrill, then was confirmed to that role by the New Jersey Senate in a unanimous vote on February 24, 2026.
As New Jersey’ s chief law enforcement officer, the Attorney General oversees over 42,000 state and local law enforcement officers and the 8,000 employees of the Department of Law and Public Safety. The Department’ s responsibilities touch upon nearly every aspect of life in New Jersey. Its sweeping responsibilities include investigating and prosecuting crimes, representing state interests in court, and enforcing strong consumer protection and civil rights statutes.
