February 2026 | The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine 4
FROM THE PRESIDENT ' S DESK
Chief Andrew Caggiano
Montville Police Department
The NJSACOP Board of Officers had the opportunity to sit down and have discussions with the new State Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and her Executive Staff. This was an exchange of ideas that we believe will benefit law enforcement here in New Jersey.
The new state legislative session will begin soon, and our Government Affairs committee, including our Government Affairs consultant Michael Turner and NJSACOP Legislative Committee chair Chief Conrad Pepperman, have been monitoring the legislature for the introduction of any new bills concerning law enforcement. Our Government Affairs Committee had a big role in getting messaging to Governor Murphy regarding our opposition to signing the Immigrant Trust Directive into law. Governor Murphy ultimately vetoed the bill.
I would like to welcome Ret. Chief Lou Bordi to the NJSACOP executive staff. He joins our association team as Professional Services Director. Looking forward to continuing to work with Ret. Chief Bordi- welcome aboard!
I would also like to thank all the police departments who have participated in the statewide Goal Zero enforcement and awareness initiative. The timing of these details is deliberate and strategic. The last one was held on January 16 th, the Friday afternoon getaway period that marked the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. The goal of this enforcement is to continue to reduce the number of fatal crashes across the state.
