Professional development has been a strong mission for our association and one that has evolved over the years. Instructors from our Command & Leadership program have once again been asked to instruct at the International Law Enforcement Academy in Budapest, Hungary. Chief Carey, Chief Brenner, Chief Pepperman and I had the honor of traveling to Budapest and met with the Hungarian National Police for several days. We toured the International Law Enforcement Academy and observed our instructors in action. It was a tremendous opportunity to learn and share information about policing in Hungary. We also met with our Federal Partners from the FBI and visited the US Embassy.
Members of the NJSACOP Board of Officers met with the New Jersey Attorney General and his staff on several occasions to discuss policies. The most recent policy was the change to the Use of Force Policy in regard to the conducted energy devices. Our Association brought the need for change to the Attorney General and he worked with us and the other stakeholders. He heard our message and worked with us to bring about this updated policy, which I believe will help agencies across the State of New Jersey. We also continue to meet with members of the NJ Prosecutors Association and the NJ Sheriffs Association, looking at discussing issues that affect all of our Associations.
The month of October is mental health awareness month. Please take the time to take care of yourself, as we all focus so much time and energy on our police officers and staff. As a reminder, our Wellness Committee created a Chiefs Wellness App. This has great resources and access to all our Peer Support Chiefs. If you have not done so already, please download the app and take a look at all it has to offer. We all have those tough days and if you need assistance, please know that our Peer Support Chiefs are there for you.
