June 2026
FROM THE PRESIDENT’ S DESK
Chief Andrew Caggiano, Montville Police Department
The legislative session has begun, and new bills are being introduced. Our government affairs committee has remained active in monitoring the new bills. We have been active in speaking with legislators regarding issues surrounding THC beverages being sold in liquor stores, cannabis use by police officers, and a bill to establish crime of political violence.
I had the opportunity to testify before committees in both the Senate and Assembly. Due to the efforts of the government affairs committee, we have seen an increase in the frequency in which legislators are reaching out to our association to get our input on legislation.
This also marks the end of my term as the President of our Association. I want to start by thanking all of you for the support you have shown me throughout the year. Thank you to our Executive Director Mitch Sklar and all of the staff at the state office for all that they do throughout the year. To my fellow board members thank you and this year could not have been a success without each of you.
Serving as the President of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police has been truly an honor and a privilege. When I began my career in 1997, I could not have imagined having this opportunity to represent the Police Chiefs of New Jersey. As I continue my career, I will remain active in this incredible association.
The time of year has come, as we look forward to the 2026 New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Conference and Police Security Expo. The 1st Vice President and his conference committee are hard at work on this year’ s conference. Please look out for registration for the conference as we will swear in Chief Carey and the rest of the Executive Board.
