I would like to welcome everyone back from the Summer of 2025. I hope everyone had an opportunity to enjoy the summer with family and friends. The Executive Board remained hard at work this summer preparing for this year. We are all excited about what lies ahead for us and the association.
I would first like to thank and congratulate Chief John Russo for an incredible year. It was an honor to serve as his first Vice President. Thank you to the Bergen County Chiefs for working with the conference committee of the Morris County Chiefs as we planned the 113th Annual Conference and Police Security Expo. A special thank you to the conference committee of the Morris County Chiefs and our Association’ s staff, including Mitch Sklar, Melissa Gaines and Jennifer Conover. They all did an amazing job and the conference and expo was a huge success.
This was a unique summer for the NJSACOP and our Executive Board. With the upcoming election for Governor, it was more important than ever for our Executive Board to get to work. Immediately after the primaries, I personally reached out to both candidates and requested to meet with each of them. I believed it was paramount that both of the candidates got to hear our law enforcement concerns. The candidates Jack Ciattarelli and Mike Sherrill both met with members of the Executive Board. We discussed law enforcement issues such as, bail reform, juvenile justice reform, the Immigrant Trust Directive, funding for law enforcement including COLA, and other law enforcement topics.
Members of the Executive Board also met with the Attorney General and his staff on several occasions to discuss policies. We also continue to meet with members of the NJ Prosecutor’ s Association and the NJ Sheriff’ s Association.
We must never forget the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and the impact it had on this great country and the law enforcement profession. This year marks the 24th anniversary of the attacks. As leaders, we must be cognizant that many of the new officers may not have even been born when 9 / 11 happened. It is our obligation to teach these officers the magnitude of that day and the impact it had on all of us. As WE MUST NEVER FORGET.
