Each year , the New Jersey Police Chiefs Foundation recognizes a police officer ( s ) and a private citizen ( s ) who has distinguished himself or herself by an act of extraordinary heroism .
The New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police established the Valor Awards Program in 2000 to recognize New Jersey police officers and private citizens who have demonstrated exceptional heroism and have shown a genuine commitment to their profession , their agency and the public at large .
POLICE OFFICER VALOR AWARD PROCEDURES
Eligibility All sworn , full-time law enforcement officers of local , county , state , and federal law enforcement agencies , are eligible .
Presentation of the Award The award shall be presented to the winner of the award at the NJSACOP Annual Conference in June .
Nomination Format Nominations for this award shall be made by the Chief of Police or Senior Law Enforcement Officer of the nominating agency . While an official NJPCF Award Nomination Form must accompany each nomination , there is no specified format required for nominations . However , it is suggested that nominations include a statement of the specific circumstances and facts of the incident ( s ) underlying the nomination , which may be supplemented by supporting documents , such as departmental citations , letters of commendation , newspaper clippings , etc . No videotapes will be considered . If possible , a black and white photograph of the nominated officer should accompany the nomination . Please note that photographs and nomination materials will not be returned .
Method and Timing of Delivery of Nominations Nominations must be delivered by mail or courier to the NJSACOP State Office no later than March 25th ( or the closest regular business day thereafter ). Only acts of heroism that occurred in the calendar year immediately preceding the deadline shall be considered .
Notification Winners will be notified by May 15th .
