CHIEF EDWARD M . KERR SPRING LAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT
A New Year and New Challenges
The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine | January 2024
The start of a new year always brings with it the hope and promise of better times , and of course reflections on the year just passed . Some people think back on all the things which they did not get to accomplish of the previous 12 months , while others look forward to all that they plan to do in the year ahead .
It has been said that on New Year ’ s Eve an optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in , and a pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves . I suppose I am a bit of each in that I am not all that sorry to see the back of 2023 . To be honest , the signs are there that 2024 will be full of challenges ( to say the least ). But , having said that , the optimist in me is looking forward to the new year . I am certain that , collectively , we will work together to fight the good fight — for our departments , our communities , for our personnel , and for our profession . Good times or bad , as law enforcement professionals we continue to do our jobs , just as we always have . And so , too , does the NJSACOP . Our Association continues to provide leadership and programs and services for our profession and for our members and their departments . I urge all of our members to continue to take advantage of all that your association has to offer .
On behalf of our Board of Officers , our Executive Director and association staff please accept my personal best wishes for a healthy , productive , and happy New Year . 2024 marks our Association ’ s 112th year , and we will do all in our power to build on the tradition of excellence that the NJSACOP has developed over the past centuryplus .
The NJSACOP sends it sincerest condolences to the families of
