FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT

FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT

CHIEF EDWARD M . KERR SPRING LAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT
The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine | September 2023
As I write my first Message for the NJSACOP as Association President , I want to begin , as I did at the annual Banquet in June , with notes of thanks . I want to thank each member of the Board of Officers that I have served with since being elected several years ago as a Vice President . Each of you have taken the time and effort to share experience and knowledge , whether it was a thought or position on a particularly difficult subject or just taking the time to explain the workings of the organization to me . And once again , to my active and retired colleagues in the Monmouth County Police Chiefs Association who helped organize an exceptional educational conference ; we saw a great turnout for the training sessions , the Expo , and the networking events , and the great work by our County Association was obvious to all . Thank you .
Although the Association ’ s professional development classes and events slow down over the summer , much work continues behind the scenes , especially by our Legislative , Legal Aid , and Public Affairs Committees . Another thank you is due to the chairs of those committees , Chiefs Conrad Pepperman , Ray Hayducka , and Andrew Caggiano .
This month our Association is conducting another session of maybe our most popular professional development program – the Gettysburg Staff Ride for Law Enforcement Leaders . As usual this program was quickly sold out . We will be conducting another session in 2024 , so remember to register early if you wish to attend or to have a member of your staff attend this ( or ) any of our excellent educational programs .
Speaking of our world-class portfolio of professional development classes , as I write this there are still a few spaces left for our Foundation for Executive Leadership course ( October 9 – 12 ) which is a great opportunity for Chiefs to provide members of their command staff with some of the skills they need to move forward in their careers . Also , be on the lookout for registration materials for the 2024 session of our NJSACOP Executive Institute , another one of our most popular . Finally , our unique “ Battle of the Bulge Leadership Experience ” course and our “ Senior Leaders Seminar at the Greater Manchester Police ” will also have limited enrollment – so if you want to ensure a spot on the roster for any of these programs , be sure to register sooner rather than later .
I am truly honored and humbled to be the President of such a widely recognized and well-respected organization . I thank you for placing your confidence in me and I promise to represent each of you and the association through hard work and with integrity throughout the coming year .
I look forward in seeing you at our next monthly briefing on October 5 th Hotel - Eatontown . in our usual location , at the Doubletree
The NJSACOP sends its sincerest condolences to the families of :
Chief Gerald DiEllo , Retired Life Member Chief Donald Tisch , Retired Life Member
