The 24 law enforcement officers feloniously killed in the first five months of 2023 represent a 20 percent increase compared to the 20 officers killed during the same period in 2022 . Firearms were used in 21 of the 24 felonious deaths in
2023 , while 2 deaths involved the use of vehicles as weapons and 1 death involved the use of personal weapons ( hands ,
