FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT
CHIEF THOMAS DELLANE STAFFORD TOWNSHIP PD
The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine | January 2023
I hope this month ’ s President ’ s Message finds each of you healthy , well and enjoying the new year .
January usually begins slowly with everyone recovering from all the dinner , events and family activities that the holidays bring each year and then proceeds to get busier as we get back to work on all things important to us .
In reflecting about a topic for this month ’ s President ’ s Message , I was immediately struck by the confusion surrounding all the recent changes to the firearms law . I , as well as other members of your Board of Officers , have received requests for guidance from our membership .
In reply to these requests , we invited a representative from the New Jersey State Police Firearms Unit to speak at our State Chiefs Briefing held on January 5 , 2023 . The representative answered attendees ’ questions but many other questions remain .
By the time you read this article , you will have received an E-Alert request to send any firearms related questions to our executive director Mitch Sklar . We will then seek out answers to all your questions and provide follow up guidance on this topic .
In closing , I would encourage all members to contact a member of the board of directors or Mitch directly if you have any issues or questions you would like to see addressed in future issues of your NJ Police Chief Magazine .
The NJSACOP sends its sincerest condolences to the family of
Chief Roy Wherry Retired Life Member
