FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT

CHIEF THOMAS DELLANE STAFFORD TOWNSHIP PD
The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine | December 2022
I want to dedicate this month ’ s President ’ s Message to highlighting critical information that every one of our members must be aware of .
Far too frequently , Chiefs do not attend our monthly meeting and we never hear from them until there is an issue with their governing body or appropriate authority . At that time , we receive a call asking for the assistance of our Legal Aid and Arbitration Committee headed by Chief Ray Hayducka .
All members must be aware that the Association ’ s Constitution and Bylaws specify the circumstances where the Association can provide financial and / or legal aid to members .
Are you aware that all members must attend at least 5 of the 10 monthly Chief ’ s briefings ? Members who fail to meet this attendance requirement are ineligible to receive assistance from the Association for financial and / or legal matters that a Chief may be experiencing .
Are you aware that a record of attendance is kept for every monthly Chief ’ s meeting ? There are sign-in sheets located in the back of the room . The sign-in sheets are the official record that you attended the meeting . Please be sure that you sign in each month prior to the start of the meeting so there is no question as to how many meetings you attended .
Are you aware that our Legal Aid and Arbitration Committee can only provide aid to members on matters that potentially will affect all members of the association ? The reason for this is due to Internal Revenue Service regulations pertaining to Non-Profit organizations of which our Association is a recognized 501 ( c ) 4 .
The best course of action for all members is to regularly attend all monthly meetings of the Association to keep yourself informed and to preserve your right to receive assistance from the Association when you need it most .
On a related note , I have appointed Chief Keith Germain to Chair our Constitution and Bylaws Committee . The Committee recently held its first meeting to review and recommend changes to our Constitution and Bylaws . I will keep the membership informed of the work of this important committee as it progresses .
On behalf of your Board of Officers and the NJSACOP Staff , we offer our best wishes for the holiday season and a happy , healthy and peaceful new year .
