Below is a message to our members from Dr . Schlosser : Greetings -
For those of you who don ’ t know me , I am Dr . Lew Schlosser . I ’ m a police psychologist and the Managing Partner at the Institute for Forensic Psychology ( www . ifp-testing . com ). I have been a private sector affiliate of the NJSACOP for many years . I am deeply honored and humbled to have been selected to serve as the inaugural Chief Psychologist for the NJSACOP .
As your Chief Psychologist , I will serve as an advisor and subject matter expert for all members on police psychology topics , including but not limited to : ( 1 ) psychological evaluations for new hires , promotions , and special assignments , ( 2 ) fitness for duty evaluations , ( 3 ) critical incident debriefings , and ( 4 ) officer wellness and resiliency . Basically , if you have a question for a police psychologist , I am here to help you .
Beyond consultation , I will offer trainings to the membership on police psychology topics . Some of you may have seen my webinar on fitness for duty evaluations in October 2020 . My next presentation for the Association will be on March 1 , 2021 ; the topic is pre-employment psychological evaluations . The IACP is about to publish a revised set of guidelines on the topic , and my presentation will cover the guidelines in detail .
Professionally , I have been working with police and public safety agencies for 15 years . I am licensed as a psychologist in New Jersey , New York , and Maine . Perhaps one of my proudest professional accomplishments was becoming Board Certified in Police and Public Safety Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology . There are approximately 75 psychologists in the United States who have earned this distinction . I have conducted over 10,000 law enforcement psychological evaluations , including pre-employment , promotional , and fitness for duty evaluations .
I am committed to professional service in my career . For 2020-2021 , I am the General Chair of the Police Psychological Services Section of the IACP . I am a member of the New Jersey Police Surgeons and I was recently named as a Fellow of the American Psychological Association .
