The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine | November 2018 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT MITCHELL C. SKLAR USE OF NJSACOP LOGOS On a fairly frequent basis I receive requests concerning the authorized and appropriate use of the NJSACOP logo, as well as the various Association “specialty” logos (such as “Accredited Agency”, “Accredited Chief/Command Executive”, “Command & Leadership Alumni Association”, etc.). I would like to think that these multiple requests reflect the high esteem and respect that our Association enjoys both within and outside the organization. Regardless of the reasons, it seems to be an opportune time to remind our members, sponsors and supporters and non-member stakeholders and affiliates (referred to here collectively as “affiliates”) of the long-standing policy adopted by the Association for the use and display of the NJSACOP logos. Use of the Association’s distinctive logo is a benefit of membership. Members are encouraged to promote the Association and what it stands for by using the logo on forms, business cards, and stationery. Non-members of the NJSACOP that have a direct and specific affiliation with our programs and services (for instance, Accreditation, the ACE Certification, NJSACOP Command & Leadership) are likewise encouraged to use the appropriate logo. The NJSACOP logo, and any marks associated with the Association, are the property of the Association, and are protected by state and federal laws. Use of any NJSACOP logo is contingent upon agreement to the following licensing provisions: The logo is the property of the Association; 1. Members in good standing may use the logo on stationery and in other written materials to indicate membership; 2. Members and affiliates may not use the logo to state or imply that the Association has endorsed a company or specific products or services; 3. Members and affiliates agree not to place the logo on products without the specific written consent of the NJSACOP; 4. Members and affiliates will indemnify and hold the Association harmless for any damages, including attorney's fees, incurred by the member as a result of use of the logo; 5. Members and affiliates agree to cease using the Association's logo upon request of the Board of Officers; and 6. Members and affiliates agree to pay the Association all costs and attorney's fees incurred by the Association in any action against a member to enforce the terms of the license agreement. All Chiefs of Police are encouraged to use the Association’s logo on their business cards, letterhead, websites, and other official documents. County police chiefs associations are also encouraged to utilize the state association logo as a component of their own logo. If a member needs additional copies of the association logo, please contact me directly at the NJSACOP State Office, either by email or telephone. Mitchell C. Sklar, Esq. Executive Director 5
