105 Years Ago – December 1912 The NJSACOP Monthly State Chiefs Meeting for December 1912 was held in Jersey City , NJ . President Tenney , as well as Chiefs Monahan , Cleary , Keily , and Tolan

Spoke on the advisability of going to Washington D . C . on March 4 th , in uniform , as an escort to President Wilson . After considerable discussion a vote was taken on the question , it being the sense of the meeting that all members attend in winter uniform , and adopt the cap and wreath worn at present time by the head of the Jersey City Dept .
Thereafter , the President introduced Major Richard Sylvester , Superintendent of the Washington , D . C . police .
The Major was in a delightful frame of mind and gave a most interesting talk . He assured the members that it would give him great pleasure to meet them in his home city on March 4 th next .
80 Years Ago – December 1937 The NJSACOP Monthly State Chiefs Meeting for December 1937 was held in Harrison , NJ . Regular order was suspended and the following Chiefs were sworn into membership in the Association : Chief Carl Jockish ( Paramus ); Chief Martin Kane ( North Plainfield ); Chief Thomas McGuire ( South Orange ); Chief Harry Kirkegard ( Eatontown ); Chief William Zieglar ( Little Silver ); Chief Harry Walsh ( Jersey City ); and Superintendent Mark Kimberling ( N . J . State Police ).

Thereafter , the Association ’ s President introduced Captain Snook of the New Jersey State Police , who

Gave a very interesting talk on fingerprints and the co-operation between their departments and the municipal police , dwelling on the fact that their department , now equipped with a laboratory for scientific detection was at the disposal of all departments , covering chemical analysis , molds and casts , ballistics , etc . He also stated that it was their intention to record sex criminals and make up crime statistics , and that they would be glad to have any department send one of their men if he required training along identification to their department and they would be glad to see that proper instruction was given .
Following Captain Snook ’ s remarks , Colonel Kimberling thanked the Association for “ having changed its constitution and by-laws so that he could become a member ,” and he assured the membership that it was “ his intention to work with and co-operate with the departments throughout the state .”
10 Years Ago – December 2007 The NJSACOP Monthly State Chiefs Meeting for December 2007 was held at Ft . Monmouth , NJ . Chief Eric Mason , chairman of the NJSACOP Command & Leadership Program , announced the first event of the new NJSACOP C & L Alumni Association will take place the following month , and which will feature a presentation by Col . Thomas Kolditz , chair of the USMC at West Point Department of Behavioral Sciences & Leadership .
Additionally , the membership approved a change to the Association ’ s Constitution and By-Laws , by which the timing of the election of Association officers was changed . Henceforth , nominations would be made at the May State Chiefs Briefing immediately preceding the Annual Conference , and any contested elections would take place at the June State Chiefs Briefing immediately preceding the Annual Conference .
