May is National Mental Health Awareness Month and as New Jersey advances its recovery from the pandemic , we know that there are children and youth struggling with social and behavioral challenges after a year of remote learning and isolation .
Separation from family members , friends , educators , health care providers , counselors , faith leaders has impacted their ability to access their natural support networks and social outlets . At the Department of Children and Families , we are raising awareness about the programs and services available to assist .
Through DCF ’ s Children ’ s System of Care ( CSOC ), coordinated access to a wide range of services , including behavioral health supports and substance use and addiction recovery treatment , are available to all youth under age 21 . Members of law enforcement can inform and encourage parents or caregivers concerned about the emotional well-being of a child to call the CSOC hotline 1 ( 877 ) 652-7624 , 24 / 7 / 365 .
