Ask the Physician
The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine | February 2021
I have put my medical care off for almost a year . My sister keeps bugging me to go see my cardiologist for a check-up . How long is it OK to wait , especially if I haven ’ t been having symptoms ? Sarah , Trenton
Sarah , thanks for reaching out with this very important question .
While I don ’ t know your medical history , if you have a cardiologist I assume you have some medical condition , whether it be a cardiac problem , high blood pressure , or perhaps high cholesterol , things that put you at higher risk for cardiovascular disease .
Even though you are not feeling symptoms , you could have problems that are building behind the scenes . February is Heart Month , so I am urging you to make an appointment to see your cardiologist . Hospitals and physician offices have been working safely during COVID-19 for many months now . The medical profession has really gotten the safety system organized . You will be amply protected during your entire visit with a doctor .
What you don ’ t want to have happen is to have a sudden cardiac episode , or return to the doctor only to find out your condition has worsened . These could be much more detrimental to your overall health and well-being .
Make a commitment during heart month to see your physician ! For more information , visit www . DemandDeborah . org or call 855-646-3484 .
