EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ’ S REPORT

MITCHELL C . SKLAR
A Return to Normal (?)
The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine | November 2020
As I write this , the news is full of positive reports on the status of the development and efficacy of multiple Covid-19 vaccines . Even as we are apparently in the midst of the dreaded second ( or third ) wave , this news allows us to ( tentatively at least ) look ahead to the resumption of something resembling a normal schedule .
So , what will that mean for the NJSACOP ? To be honest , I wish I could predict what our 2021 calendar of events will in fact look like . I think it is pretty clear that we will be starting 2021 the way we will finish 2020 – remotely . You can find the schedule of programs , events , and courses for the NJSACOP e-Learning Center at the Professional Development tab on our Association website . Additionally , we will continue to conduct our Monthly State Police Chiefs Briefings virtually , until such time as the applicable rules , and the safety and welfare of our members and staff , permit a resumption of our in-person meetings .
Having said that , we are making tentative plans to schedule our Police Executive Institute for the spring , as well as ( fingers crossed ) more firm plans for our Contemporary Issues in Police Administration and Foundation for Executive Leadership courses in the Autumn . We are also ( again , tentatively ) working on plans to resume our programming with international partners .
As the situation develops and clarifies we will keep our membership and other stakeholders informed . In the meantime , we appreciate you all hanging in there with us , and are gratified that so many are taking advantage of our online offerings . With 2021 almost upon us ( and good riddance to 2020 ), we can all see at least a glimmer of a return to normal . Fingers crossed .
