But that doesn’t stop me from thinking of you

Or from playing our song on my iPod

Too many times.

And I hope that you know

That I’ll never forget how I fell asleep on that ride home

Curled up against you

And of how I dreamed simply that I was safe.

But also that I’ll never quite be able to recall

The exact color of your eyes when the sun hit them

Or how your lips

Used to feel against mine.

I used to think of you

Almost every hour, of every day.

But recently,

Your face has faded in my mind

As though you were a memory from a story, or from a distant world.

It’s better this way, I think.

It doesn’t hurt to hear your name anymore.

And so I’ll go on with my life,

And you with yours.

But if our paths cross again someday,

I can only hope that we’ll both remember

The way my hand…

It fit in your palm.
