I was always interested in the behind the scenes of the music industry so when I found this book on a bookshelf in Strands Bookstore I knew I would love it. Now, since Phil Spector a new style of music has emerged. Pop music, that is. Comprised of a “hook”, repetition, and an addictive beat, Pop music can be considered the junk food of the music world. The funny thing is, it was designed to be that way, and not by the people that actually perform the songs. Instead, Pop music is the work of many musical geniuses working together to produce hit after hit after hit. This book takes you on a crazy, interesting, and bizarre trip that is the history of the pop industry.

I really loved this book because it introduced me to a whole other world. A world where music is not created by a bunch of friends jamming in a garage, but where middle aged men write songs for teenage girls and boy bands. Where all of today's artists not only work on their own albums, but help out on many other chart topping artist’s albums as well. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves music or just someone who wants to know more about what they hear on the radio. I have a lot more respect for pop music after reading this book.
