Honestly, The Giver is the first science fiction book that made me think about life, period. This book is definitely the most interesting book I've read in the last three years; combining philosophy, emotions and an interesting story in one book and to be honest it made me think about life. The story is about a community where everything is perfect; there are no colors, no emotions, no war, no hunger and no danger. Everyone is the same except Jonas. He is chosen to fulfill the most important job in the community: he becomes the receiver of memories. He must work with the "Giver"who transfers memories to him, which will help him gain wisdom. While working with the Giver, Jonas comprehends that he was living in a lie. Life's enjoyments and suffering were hidden from him in order to "protect" him and "save" him
from danger. No one in the community can experience emotions; all feelings are shallow and meaningless. Jonas has had enough; he decides to take risks and makes a bold decision. With an ending that will make you read the sequel as it did to me, I strongly recommend reading the book and I'm sure you will find it interesting and thought-provoking.
Recently the book was made into a movie. I suggest reading the book first. As usual, the book is much better and I must say that the movie will not give you those deep wonderings.
