Interview Of The Month
This month we interviewed Tal Maayan – a student, actress and singer – who talked to us about life in South Africa and her move to Israel.
Why did you and your family move to South Africa?
We moved to South Africa because my dad's family is there and my parents are missionaries.
How did the move affect you? If you could go back in time would you not move?
I'd say that the move was something good and I wouldn't give it up for anything! It was an amazing experience.
How was the education system there? Did you go to a regular school?
The education system there is OK. There are lots of schools but a lot of poor kids don't go to school. I did homeschooling for the whole time.
How much time were you and your family there? Did you discover / learn something there that you couldn't learn in Israel?
My family and I were in South Africa for three years. I would say that I learned about my South African side, which I wouldn't be able to know if we stayed in Israel.
Do you have family that lives in South Africa?
Yes. All my family from my dad's side is there so it was good
to meet them.
Was the move hard for you socially?
I think that socially it wasn't hard... but doing home schooling was a bit isolating...
Why did you and your family move back to Israel?
We moved back to Israel because we knew we were only going to be in South Africa for 3 years and Israel is our home...
Did you want to stay there for more time?
I think that the time we were there was good but of course I would have liked to stay longer with my friends...
How was moving back? Did it take you a long time to get used to Israel again?
No... moving back to Israel felt like I never left, it was wonderful...
Now that you are in Irony Hey do like it? What would you like to change?
I like Ironi Hey. It's a good school with really nice people....it's just a bit hard with the high level of education.
