To Tell the Truth

In the late 1950s, when I was nearing the end of grade school, two
very popular tv programs of the time were “I’ve Got a Secret” (four
celebrity panelists try to determine a contestant's secret, i.e., something
that is unusual, amazing, embarrassing or humorous about that person)
and “To Tell the Truth” (four celebrity panelists are presented with three
contestants and must identify which is the actual person whose unusual
occupation or experience has been described by the show’s host). I recall
watching and enjoying them both. The memory of both shows endure—
only now as reality tv, or rather just reality.
In both our political world and in the church, we are often left to
struggle with who is keeping secrets and who is telling the truth (or more
