RC ROCKS RUSSIA
A Prep International Story

Twenty two Robert College students visited St. Petersburg, Russia from 15th to 22nd March, 2014
to attend the Nevsky MUN Conference. With 2 chaperones, they represented their school successfully, but
didn’t forget to have fun and discover the historical city. “The conference, the people from all over the
world, the historical places… The whole trip was great,” says Cansu Uyguroğlu, one of the participants.
Twenty of the students were delegates who were given four countries to represent in the
conference; The Russian Federation, Nigeria, Syria and Sweden. They had to discuss the problems in the
committees and write resolutions for the problems as if they were representatives of the countries given.
Other two students were there to run the committees. Su Mevsim Küçükakyüz, who ran the Disarmament
Committee, was also the Secretary General of the conference.
The students started to work hard months before the conference. All the research, brainstorming
and effort paid off. Fourteen delegates had their resolutions discussed in the committees and eight
resolutions were passed in the General Assembly. The students improved their debating skills, learned
about current international problems and made new friends from all over the world while taking part in
the conference, but it wasn’t just that. They also had time to explore St. Petersburg and learn a lot about
Russian culture, history and art. “It was a productive trip,” as Ece Akçay says.
The delegation posed for a diplomatic photograph.
