The Sights. The Sounds. The Smells. This Must Be Spring.

Today I stood at the FDTV (front door television) and just waited. I could see the sun shining, lizards racing through the fresh green grass and even that snarky squirrel perched on the side of the tree, snapping that bushy tail of his. Then the door magically opened and I saw it. A furry beast that seems to elude me with insouciance in his step and attitude, surpassing even that saucy squirrel. *growl!* Mom says it’s a CAT. What does that stands for; Copping A ‘Tude? He’s super quiet, stealth-like and thinks he’s ‘all that.’ Sneaky thing hides under cars and bushes, just watching, and waiting to pounce. But, with my super puppy powers, I sense his taunting stare and chase him down. He takes one look at my Super Hero cape, and takes off. Well, who knows where he darts off to, but at least he’s out of sight for now, and I’ve saved the world, yet again. As I return triumphant in my victory, there’s Rosie being a total Diva Dog, lounging her bad self in the sun on the soft, green grass…staring at Snarky Squirrel as he nibbles on a nut. Those two have been in a staring contest since I can remem-
ber. She insists that she will climb the tree when she grows up, but for right now, she seems content to stare. Suddenly, water started falling from the sky. And, for a moment, I had a flashback to bathtime and that scary sea monster that squirts water at me. Then, I realized, it’s just a spring time rain. The door magically opens again, and we dash inside. While I try to play tug-o-war with the towel mom is using to dry me off, Rosie wastes no time throwing herself, face first into a long slide onto the throw rug, then rolling all over the place. Like I said, total Diva. After we snag some crunchy yummies, Rosie and I park ourselves in front of the wide screen window that mom had just opened. Snarky Squirrel has disappeared up the tree. CAT is still offsite, most likely terrorizing some poor lizard. And all is quiet except for the rain. We take a deep whiff and relax. Springtime is puppy time, and with the window open we have the full screen experience of smell-a-vision in 3D.
Life from a Dog’s Perspective is a series written for The New Barker by Guinness the dog (as told to his mom, Lon Martin). When he isn’t blogging to his worldwide fan base, he enjoys watching a little FDTV with his housemate and fellow Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Rosie. Go to www.thenewbarker.com and link onto Guinness.
