Although there have been many attempts to make peace in the country, the treaties between the rebels and the government have failed to protect the country’s citizens. Ever since the Second Congo War ended in 2003, an estimated 45,000 Congolese are dying each month from fighting, economic disturbances caused by the conflict, and most commonly, from disease and sickness. More people are dying each day from the current outbursts of violence from the M23, but Congo's struggles go much deeper than we think. It has been said that the Congo Crisis is one of the most devastating events in the world, taking more lives than any other event since World War II. The country is receiving more international attention than ever before from the United Nations who are constantly trying to save the Congolese lives and bring peace to the disturbed country.
