International Comedian Set to Impress Townsville Audience By Laurence Page BUSBY MAROU FRIDAY 15 NOVEMBER FLINDERS SOCIAL “YOU AWAKE TO FIND YOURSELF IN A DARK ROOM” is the phrase that all will be saying when attending John Robertson’s ‘The Dark Room’ on the 15th of October. A show that comes directly from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Perth Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, it is bound to wow Townsville audiences. ‘The Dark Room’ is not only a full, featurelength comedy show, but a ‘choose- yourown-adventure’ game at the same time. Audience members are selected and asked to choose different options out of the metaphorical, dark room. Created simply by using Mr. Robertson’s Xbox and a projector, some of the options range from ‘turning on the light switch’ to ‘kill self’. Whatever the option may be, John Robertson improvises a comedic response for everything and after individual audience members have the chance to play this comedy rollercoaster of a game, John gets the entire audience to play it as a democracy and that’s where the fun really happens. After seeing this show in Melbourne earlier this year, it was by far the most engaging show of the entire festival. John Robertson will be travelling overseas to perform this show for one night only in Townsville, and we’re going to spice up the show by kicking off with some local acts. PLUG: ‘The Dark Room’ is being performed at the Herbert Hotel on October 15th Metal and Kebabs By Wayne FKN Chandler Tickets available from www.TheMusicRag.com I was about to take a mouthful of water when I spilt the contents of the bottle all over myself. I not only realised I had a drinking problem but that most things cool in my life were a result of an accident. One example is my introduction to metal. There I am, 8 years old listening to Michael Jackson’s Thriller on cassette through my newly acquired Sony Walkman when I heard the riffage of Eddie Van Halen for the first time. I hadn’t heard anything like that on Sesame St as yet so I chose to investigate this guy. A world of harmonic wammy dives, crunching rhythms and powerful vocals had entered my stereo ensuring many noise complaints to come as I was going to piss off many neighbours from Perth to Darwin, Brisbane to Townsville in my quest to learn guitar. The year is now and I’m still having lots of fun playing, my band Amagon is working on its next album featuring the debut of our new drummer Steve Williamson, former Aggravated and Full Throttle drummer. Unlike most other instances I’ve mentioned, this album will be no mistake. Get yourselves to a local show soon, Townsville has live metal happening regularly and you might accidentally enjoy yourself.
