Elle Graham Making waves… Softly! Editor’s Note Sometimes life is hard and sometimes it’s even bad… Coping is not always easy, and we all have our go to methods for problem solving or escapism.  For me, my go to method is music. After a hard day at work, or after an argument, or after going 6 weeks without being able to find a job, I turn on my favourite songs and turn up the stereo… And in the moment my favourite songs come on, I feel human again. The power of music is more than an emotional stabiliser, it is also able to bring back memories for people suffering from dementia. A couple of months ago when Triple J were playing the Hottest 100 of the Past 20 years, some of the songs made me laugh as so many forgotten memories came flooding in. I found myself singing all the words to songs I haven’t heard in over a decade. Music is my heart beat and is food for my soul. So to all the musicians past, present and future, local or otherwise, I’d like to say thank you for making my life worth living, you rock my world! Cheers, Paul Elle Graham is a singer/songwriter that recently relocated from Townsville to Melbourne to pursue a path in composition & sound production. The young songwriter has been performing live for years. During this time music lovers have come in droves to see her perform. Elle’s music blends soft vocal harmonies and piano compositions to create an ambient atmosphere. “My new album, Between Cities, is a collection of released and unreleased work - I have chosen tracks that show versatility in both production and songwriting.” Elle says. “I have independently been making music from bedroom studios and garages for the last 4 years. I am aiming for a successful career in the forefront of the Australian music industry. I would like to one-day balance being a versatile artist with a successful career as a Music Supervisor/ Composer for TV/Film/Commercials.” Elle Graham is not only an independent singer-songwriter, producer and composer from Townsville, but also a model. She is also collaborating with a variety of artists on many ideas and projects. In the past, she was the assistant to the planning co-ordinator at AFCM: helping with performance schedules, artist packs, timetables, signage, music sourcing, artist liaison & festival transport. Flamenco & Gypsy passion ignites at Sangría Sesiones By Bernadette Ashley More Sangría Sesiones are planned for October after a small cohort of guitarists, percussionists and singers met for open acoustic jams at two Sunday sessions at Movimiento during September, to form the esqueleto (skeleton) of a gypsy and flamenco band. Foundation members are Fernando ‘El Caito’ Olmos [Spanish/Chilean Australian] from Melbourne, and Salvador Figueroa [Spain], on guitars and cajón. The sessions are hugely interactive, with casual drumming, singing, and interjections expected from everyone present, and the sharing of food and drinks. Olmos is happy to initiate people into the art of palmas (flamenco handclapping technique), which is regarded as another ‘instrument’ in the genre.Coincidentally, at the time Olmos contacted Movimiento in hopes of finding a place to meet likeminded musicians with a cultural bent, director Bernadette Ashley had just organised Sevillanas (Andalusian festival dances) workshops with Cristina Vidal, a Spanish dive master living in Townsville, and was looking for musicians who could play Spanish music for the dancers.
