The Music Rag Issue 5 - October 2013 | Page 11

REVIEWS SECTION Snakadaktal @ Flinders Social Aug 16th By Dominic Concar The band kicked off the night with their signature tunes Air, and Chimera, made popular after their Unearthed High win in 2011. Frontsperson Phoebe Cockburn led the band with tight control over her haunting vocals. As the band progressed through their set with songs from new Debut LP ‘Sleep in the Water’, Guitarist and vocalist Sean Heathcliff took a step into the spotlight. Switching places from being support vocalist to leading, his stronger voice was accentuated by Phoebe’s vocals. As the band ploughed through their set, more and more people streamed into the venue and chilled out to the dreamy vibes of the band. Snakadaktal commanded the crowd to enjoy their tunes with wicked guitar licks and a great performance on drums. They ended up powering through a whole hour and a half of solid live music that left everyone wanting more. Laurence Backer is a real champ, a nice guy and a bloody hard worker who deserves his name on a plaque. He also blogs and promotes local music, supports TMPAS and The Court House Theatre, runs a recording studio, he also helps out shows when he is needed, AND he hands out copies of The Music Rag every month. He may not be changing the world, but he certainly is one of the guys changing Townsville for the better.  Cheers Laurence, you rock! King – It Goes Around Video Review By Tabi Sari Local band King first started making waves when they recorded a video at the Rec Room which was released in early April, this has been seen over 7000 times. Recently, King has been getting a good attention, and their new Youtube video is something the band should be very proud of. Frog Mouth Creative Agency Review By Domanii Cameron If you’re an artist in Townsville and have been struggling to seek out some exposure, then you should contact the city’s newest initiative.Frog Mouth Creative Agency is a student-based organization that helps promote and develop local artists, by offering various types of design, photography, filming, video mapping and promotional events. Nicole Zicchino, Deborah Kvam, Jake Reid and Sam Collings, have designed the professional platform to help amateur DJ Caldwell’s repertoire covers house, electro, mainstream club remixes, and more recently extending his signature crowdpleasing performances internationally. After a repeat stellar performance at Fiji’s Electro Music Festival, and his recent opportunity to work withsouthern hip-hop artist Chingy, DJ Caldwell has developed an impressive international name for himself. Within two weeks of launching their video, it had been seen 4000 times which is a great start. This relatively new band has a lot going for them, they are actually in a position to take their music to a national and possibly an international level. It’s exciting to see bands breaking the mould and succeeding. I genuinely hope that these guys make it and I have faith that they will.
