Phone Companies – Amy Zaghini
Fun ! Light hearted with slightly obsessive undertones . I think Amy must have had a jolly good time writing this little ditty . The intro is toe tapping with simplistic use of percussion . When the voice cuts in , I ’ m listening , and the amusing story of love forlorn is compelling . Each verse is like a mini chapter in a modern day teenage love novel … vomit if you must . Phone Companies sounds like an odd topic to write about , but it works . Throughout the track I ’ m amused and entertained ; the final chapter is indeed sweet ( pun intended ). The crisp recording showcases Amy ’ s melodic range , reminiscent in parts of Carly Simon and Lisa Mitchell ’ s lovechild ; if you squint your ears slightly . The ‘ council ticketies ’ tag is a nice take on words , where others might describe them a little more colourfully . A track worthy of # 5 in this month ’ s Top of The Trops chart . I look forward to more of Amy ’ s work , maybe next she ’ ll cover those random sales calls from those with accents . You ’ ll love this if you like quirky tales told with catchy melodies that get stuck in your head sideways . By Christina Kalleske

Comedy Review
Ever had a hilarious Thursday night out ? The audience for the Find the Funnies : Graduation Performance did . Find the Funnies was a six-week workshop programme set up by Laurie Page with the help of other North Queensland comedians . During the process , we mentored and scaffolded ten fresh comedians and introduced them to the Townsville comedy scene . Throughout , comedians found their own writing and performance styles , and this showed during the performance . Not only did we have a full house at the Kirwan Tavern ( have you ever seen a pub with over 100 people for a comedy night ?), but there were very positive reviews in relation to the comedians . Whether you find you prefer your humour awkward , controversial , observational , theatrical , sexual , bombastic , sassy , dance-like or even in one case , orgasmic – as most jokes from comedian Susan Mattocks received a round of applause – every comedian showed variety , spontaneity and more importantly , hilarity . And the laughs don ’ t stop there . You can see these comedians all around Townsville , as the producers of Townsville comedy , including myself , hand-pick these people to support our performances . The Find the Funnies performance was one of the most rewarding nights for Townsville Comedy .
