Vintage Villa Street: Here Today, Gone Tomorrow?
The MVHA shares the history of two Villa Street buildings threatened by new development
This past spring, the Mountain View Historical Association learned that the owners of Chez TJ restaurant and the Tied House
Microbrewery have partnered with a local developer, the Minkoff Group, to replace the two restaurants with a new four-story office
building. Commercial space would be located on the ground floor, with tentative plans to combine the two existing restaurants into
a new dining concept in the space.
In light of this development proposal, the Historical Association has prepared articles on the histories of the structures currently
located on the site of the proposed development: the historic Weilheimer House at 938 Villa Street and the Air Base Laundry
building at 954 Villa Street. We will also be discussing this topic at our Summer Membership Meeting & BBQ on August 20.
The MVHA Board’s goal is to share with the community and our elected leaders the history of both properties to help inform
upcoming decisions on their future. We hope you’ll find the information on the Weilheimer House (page 4-5) and Air Base Laundry
(page 7) both interesting and informative.
