Board Meeting Recap

By Nick Perry MVHA Vice President
We’ ve received some great donations to our archives in the last few months. From Marie Lee are three of her photos taken around town in 1986. Danielle( Scheibli) Petrovic donated a wall calendar given out by the First National Bank in the 1920s, which belonged to her great-grandfather, Harry Scheibli. And David Salinero gave us a set of beautiful photos of the downtown Harvest Parade, taken by Vincent H. Salinero in the 1950s. If you had a chance to see them at our February meeting, you know how exceptionally clear and detailed they are— a remarkable snapshot of old Castro Street businesses such as Lane’ s Creamery and Wagner’ s Drug Store, as well as some pretty elaborate parade loats.

Immigrant House Update

By Marina Marinovich MVHA Publicity Chair
The MVHA continues to work with the Friends of the Immigrant House to ind era-appropriate furnishings for the interior of the house. On the master list of items needed are:
Front Parlor / Bedroom Trunk, Bed, Window Curtains
Kitchen & Pantry Ice Box, Mason Jars, Typical Pantry Items, Table, Chairs, Flour Bin, Washboard, Sink, Kitchen Stove, Window Curtains
To maintain the authenticity of the exhibit, a threefold process for scouting and donations has been put into place:
1. Items must be from the 1920s era or before. 2. Photos and a description of said items need to be approved by the City for possible inclusion.
3. Items must be approved as historically and aesthetically accurate by the City before they are actually acquired or purchased.
If you have a lead on obtaining any of the furnishing items listed above, please contact the Friends of Immigrant House at( 650) 961-8209.

Your Board of Directors had an especially productive quarterly board meeting on March 23! Here are a few key updates we want to share with our members:
New Board Members. We are excited to announce the appointment of two new members to our Board of Directors! At our meeting we oficially elected John Cortez and Anne Marie Montavon. John and Anne Marie will ill our Board’ s two vacant“ Member-at-Large” positions. Thank you John and Anne Marie! We are still looking for a few people to complete our Board. Please contact us if you’ re interested. The Board meets only four times a year, and we have only four events per year so the time commitment is minimal but your impact on helping our organization fulil our mission and goals is huge.
Barbara Kinchen Commemoration. During the meeting the Board discussed various ways to commemorate the late Barbara Kinchen’ s outstanding contribution to MVHA and her extraordinary dedication to the library’ s History Center. We have decided to create a plaque in her honor that will be displayed in the History Center. We’ ll keep you all posted on this commemoration as we work on developing its content and design.
Mountain View Veterans Memorial. In 2014, the MVHA donated funds for an interpretive sign at the new Mountain View Veterans Memorial in Eagle Park. The sign will provide information on the memorial and the site’ s history as the former location of Mountain View Union High School. We continue to coordinate with the organizers of the Mountain View Veterans Memorial to inalize the design of the sign and have it installed at the site. The MVHA has also been invited to participate at the memorial’ s Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 29, 2017, between 11:15 a. m. and 12:00 p. m.
Interpretive Signage Program. Due to limited time / bandwidth, we unfortunately have not made much progress on installing a sign commemorating the site of Arrow Development’ s original location on Moffett Boulevard. Installing this sign remains a priority for the Board. If anyone would like to help implement this project, please contact us. We’ re very interested in expanding our interpretive signage program to key historic sites throughout Mountain View.
The date of our next board meeting, tentatively scheduled for mid-June, is still to be determined. But keep an eye out for updates on our Facebook page( www. facebook. com / MVHistory). You can also email us or call the History Center for more information.
