Spring 2017 Event & Membership Meeting
Japanese in Mountain View
Japanese American students belonging to the Young Buddhist Association stand in front of Mtn. View High School in 1928.
Please join us at our Spring Event & Membership Meeting where we will focus on the history of Mountain View’s Japanese
American community. Our event is timed to celebrate May as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and to reflect on the
75th anniversary of Japanese internment. We have invited members of Mountain View’s Japanese American community to
share their stories and memories during the event. As of press time, our speakers include father-daughter duo Ellen Kamei
and Ken Kamei. Ellen is a third-generation resident of Mountain View and currently serves on the city’s Environmental
Planning Commission. Ken was born in a Japanese internment camp during World War II and was part of the first
graduating class of Graham Middle School. Together they will share stories about their family’s history and
their flower nursery business in Mountain View.
We encourage any other members of the community to come to the event
and share memories, stories, photos or heirlooms related to local Japanese
American history. RSVP not required, but please feel free to contact us at:
[email protected] or via phone at (650) 903-6890 .
