During this special time of year, families and friends gather to remember those who have passed away. The celebration has ancient roots, stretching back to the time of the Aztecs. In the United States, Dia de los Muertos has become increasingly popular with people of many cultural backgrounds. On Sunday, November 6 the Mtn. View Historical Association is partnering with Club Estrella—a Mexican-American social club founded in Mtn. View in 1948—to bring the first Dia de los Muertos celebration to Mtn. View. This FREE event will take place at the historic Adobe Building and will feature special presentations on Mtn. View’s Mexican heritage, including a presentation by Crisanto Castro—a descendent of the Castro family for which Castro street was named—and a live performance by Northern California’s premier mariachi band, Mariachi Tapatio of San Jose! The event will also serve as the MVHA’s Fall 2016 Featuring: membership meeting where we will elect our 2017-18 Board. Attendees of all cultures are invited to participate by sharing photos of their ancestors to be included in a special Mtn. Viewthemed Dia de los Muertos altar. See page 6 for more info. We hope you will join us for this very special celebration! FREE EVENT - RSVP BY VISITING WWW.MVHISTORY.EVENTBRITE.COM 5
