I Believe
By: Nathan
I believe that the modern teenager is created around
technology. What does that mean? Well, I just think teenagers
these days rely on electronic devices so much, that it literally
destroys brain cells. In other words, boredom is something
that teenagers encounter on a daily basis. Boredom to me is
an opportunity to invent, think and create. To some others, it's
a time to play video games, tweet on Twitter or post random
pointless status updates on Facebook. It is trend that grows
and grows when the human race becomes more
technologically advanced. Teenagers these days hardly
experience the whole playing outside routine and coming back
home when the street lights turn on. Technology fries the
young mind and prevents a young person to ever fully
straining their full capabilities.
For me, I graduated high school in 2011 and did college for 2
years. I did not receive any degree because I realized that
college was not for me. So, I joined the Army National Guard.
It's a decision that I do not regret one bit. It is something that
keeps me outside and keeps me learning something new just
about everyday. From what I have observed over the past few
months in being in the military is that the teenagers that join
right after high school, do not really want to be in the military.
They see it as an escape from their "annoying parents" or
whatever problems they have at home. Some of the more
younger people in my unit now, are being deployed to Korea
for a year with no break to see their family before they fly out
there. All I hear now is complaints and constant whining on
how it is unfair to not see family before deployment. All I can
say to myself is, "well what did you expect?" I mean, if they
thought they were old enough to sign up for the military, you
would think they would be ready to leave family for their job.
Basically I am just trying to say is think before you act. Be sure
the choices you make as a young adult are smart ones. They
could ultimately change your actual adult life in the long run.
Other last minute advice to the young ones:
1. Think before acting
2. Do not do drugs
3. Decisions come with consequences
4. Success is not a destination, it is a journey.
5. The pain you feel today, is the strength you feel tomorrow.
6. Never settle and always strive for more.
7. Practice makes better, because no one is perfect.
8. Life is what you make it to be. No one else.
9. Make yourself happy before making others happy.
10. Treat others the same way you would like to be treated.
