Ask Maddie
Dear Maddie,
Is there any time when rage quitting is appropriate?
Sincerely,
Dr. Klein
Dear Dr. Klein,
The short answer is no.
I know how frustrating it can be to be stuck in a group with poor communication and constant wipes. If you find yourself becoming so frustrated that you stop having fun or feel you can no longer meaningfully contribute to the team, then perhaps you should leave the group but do so courteously. Remember always the Code of Conduct. You represent LoMS always. LoMS has a reputation as a friendly and helpful cabal. You wouldn’t want to do anything that would show our cabal in a negative light, would you?
Everyone gets frustrated but it isn’t fair to dump all of your baggage on the group as you walk out the door throwing up deuces. Instead try bowing out gracefully, be honest with your teammates. Try something along the lines of: “Guys, I’m not at my best right now. We can end this here or you guys can replace me. Either way, I need to take a break from game.”
After you leave said group, I suggest actually taking that break to calm your nerves and refocus your mind. Whatever you do, try not to immediately trash talk the group you just left. That’s just rude. Or if you absolutely must vent, do so privately and don’t use names.

Dear Maddie,
My friends say that Friends don’t let Friends PUG. Is there any truth to this? And what do my friends have against adorable puppies?
Sincerely,
Canine Curious
Dear Canine Curious,
Pugs are awesome! With their big eyes, curly tails and squished faces, who could not love that face and their excited little snorts? I want to get one myself.
Oh! Schwimmwagen says your friends probably mean Pick Up Groups. PUGs are formed on the spot of people you don’t necessarily know. PUGs can be an awesome experience. It is a great way to meet new people and maybe learn a few new tricks or tactics.
On the other hand, PUGs can also be frustrating. Sometimes you can end up in a group where one or more members behave rudely, won’t listen to one another or the team constantly wipes. When that happens, you can either suck it up and deal, or gracefully bow out.
Note on PUGs from Schwimmwagen:
The thing to make sure of with PUGs is to be up front- tell them what abilities you have and what you're willing to do, and make sure they tell you what they want from you. Avoid unrealistic expectations- "LFG FAST 18's 10.5's ONLY" tend to be groups with much higher expectations than are worth it. Be understanding, but make sure they understand you, too.
It is really a roll of the die on whether you get a good PUG or not. We’ve had members join LoMS after having a good PUG experience with one our members. Sometimes just being helpful and friendly can b our best recruiting method. Alternatively, I’ve been in PUGs that were disastrous from the start. You have to decide for yourself if the gamble is worth it.
