Ask Maddie

Dear Maddie

If my knick knack has a paddy whack, why do I need to give my dog a bone?

-Confused

Dear Confused,

You may want to consider the greater consequences of your chosen action or inaction. In one model, you give your dog the bone and the old man comes rolling home. However, if you choose not to give your dog the bone, your dog may become resentful and chase the old man away. The old man may never come home again. You want the old man to come home - it strengthens the dream.

Remember, life is the sum of its parts, and while you may have a knick knack and/or paddy whack, you can't leave other important family members out in the cold. Giving your dog a bone is really the least you can do.

Dear Maddie,

My wife says I spend too much time playing online games and not enough time paying more attention to her. Not sure what my question is?

-Life in Crisis

Dear Life in Crisis,

I am reminded of a completely out-of-context quote from Streakz’s forum signature.

[*Medalla]: sorry wife called

[Beeater]: np

[*Skizzia]: kill her

Just kidding!!! No, seriously, don’t do that. It’s a felony! First ask yourself honestly: Are you really spending too much time on online games? Sometimes we don’t realize how much our hobbies affect others. Look critically at your habits from the moment you wake up in the morning until you go to bed at night. Make a log of it, if that helps.

Next, you need to communicate with your wife. You need to find out why she is feeling neglected. There may be another reason that she might not even realize herself. Try to be open with her. Find some middle ground.

Maybe you can set aside a special date night. Woo your wife all over again. Bring her a corsage and dress up. You don’t even have to go anywhere fancy. Sometimes it feels good to do something silly like have a formal dinner at a fast food restaurant.
