Our Story
Since 2018 , Prism United has been dedicated to transforming the lives of LGBTQ + youth , offering a lifeline to combat the psychological , socio-economic and academic challenges they face due to repression and victimization . We firmly believe that LGBTQ + youth need more than just a helping hand — they deserve intentional and safe spaces to express themselves , learn and connect with those who understand their unique challenges .
Through our 13 program gatherings each month , we empower over 150 LGBTQ + youth and their families . Our core youth programs , Prism Teens and Prism Preteens , provide in-person and virtual gatherings , special events and essential services tailored for youth aged 10-18 . The Prism Families program extends peer support and local resources for family members of LGBTQ + youth .
We ’ ve also forged a strong network of affirming and knowledgeable health professionals in both Mobile and Baldwin counties including LGBTQ + competent therapists and healthcare providers . This network guarantees access to free STI / HIV testing and mental health support which includes free therapy through our Prism Healing Fund , contributing to the holistic well-being and empowerment of local youth .
But that ’ s not all . We are on a mission to create a more inclusive and accepting society . We provide LGBTQ + cultural competency training to students , educators , clinicians , employers and anyone willing to listen . To date , we ’ ve educated over 1,000 individuals breaking down cultural barriers , improving communication and establishing inclusive , equitable environments for all .

How To Do Some Good :
Volunteer : We offer diverse opportunities for volunteering whether you ’ re interested in facilitating support groups , chaperoning special events like our Prism Prom and Jack O ’ Lantern Jubilee , engaging in outreach activities , contributing to our media team or providing meal services each role plays a vital part in enriching the lives of LGBTQ + youth and their families .
Donate : Your support ensures the continuation of life-changing services . By donating , you empower us to reach more LGBTQ + youth and foster a safer , more accepting community .
Support : Our annual fundraisers including Bent Broadway , the Come Out Gala and the Wig Walk are fantastic opportunities to show your support . By attending these events , you not only contribute to our cause but also raise awareness for LGBTQ + youth across the Alabama Gulf Coast all while having a great time !
