Story and Mission
The Mission of The Shoulder is to restore individuals and their families who are affected by alcohol / drug abuse by providing quality , affordable treatment in a safe , secure , Christian environment .
The Shoulder was founded in 1988 by a men ’ s prayer group who recognized the need for a treatment facility for substance abuse in our community .
The Shoulder currently operates two residential substance abuse treatment facilities . The first is a 40-bed residential substance abuse treatment facility for men in Spanish Fort . The Shoulder offers two levels of state-certified treatment : Level III . 1 low-intensity residential care and Level III . 01 transitional residential care .
The second is our brand-new 42-bed residential women ’ s facility in Mobile . This facility also offers two levels of care : Level III . 5 high intensity residential care and Level III . 1 low-intensity residential care that mirrors our men ’ s program in Spanish Fort .
All services at The Shoulder are based on three foundations : spirituality , the twelve steps , and recovery orientation . Clients are expected to participate in multiple educational and process groups , 12- step meetings , spirituality groups and individual and family counseling .

SPOTLIGHT
17th Annual Freedom Luncheon in 2023
The Annual Freedom Luncheon has a tradition of instilling hope and inspiration with stories of recovery from Shoulder alumni and guest speakers .
The 2023 guest speaker was Alabama Representative Matt Simpson . Simpson has been a member of the Alabama House since 2018 . Simpson has spent his career as an advocate for the people of Baldwin and Mobile Counties . Simpson was previously the prosecutor for Baldwin County handling all cases where children are the victims of sexual and / or physical abuse and a career prosecutor , having worked with both the Baldwin and Mobile County District Attorney ’ s Office for a combined nearly 12 years .
Simpson has also been very active in the community . He has served on the Board of Directors for Fairhope / Point Clear Rotary Youth Center and the Baldwin County DHR .
