Our Programs & Impact
Each year , more than 200,000 individuals receive assistance from the United Way of Southwest Alabama and our 46 partner agencies .
Volunteer Connect is a recruitment and management website that increases volunteerism and mobilizes resources by offering opportunities for individuals and groups to volunteer . Also , it serves as the community calendar .
Through a UWSWA partnership with Lifelines Counseling Services , trained United Way 2-1-1 Help Line call specialists provide individuals seeking assistance free and confidential referrals to community services .
Through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance ( VITA ) program , UWSWA provides free federal and state e-filing tax assistance .
Clarke County Community Center - The Clarke County Outreach Center ( CCOC ) is a central hub for UWSWA partner agencies serving Clarke County to meet and provide their full spectrum of services to residents of the county and is not limited to programs funded by UWSWA . Having a physical presence in Clarke County helps mitigate transportation challenges as well as increase awareness of the programs and services available to residents in Choctaw , Clarke , and Washington Counties . The CCOC opened on May 29 , 2019 , and was made possible through an Alabama Power Foundation Elevate Grant .
Project Blueprint is a two-month training and learning opportunity for people interested in learning about nonprofit board structure , board service , nonprofit organization operations and more . In order to keep our citizens engaged in all processes , it is important to make sure everyone has an understanding of nonprofit board service . Topics covered in the program include personal responsibility of serving on a nonprofit board , the unique business of nonprofits , and the services available to assist our neighbors who need the help to prosper . PBP is designed to empower the participants in the knowledge of nonprofit operations and board service and is reflective of our diverse community . Upon completion of the two-month series of informative classes , PBP graduates are ready for placement on local boards of directors and committees .
SingleCare is a free prescription savings service and discount card that can save individuals up to 80 % on medications at most major pharmacies . SingleCare is always free to use and works whether you have insurance or not , because everyone should have access to the lowest prices available for their medications . SingleCare is valid at 35,000 + pharmacies in the United States .
The Basics Southwest Alabama is a new program designed to help expectant parents and caregivers of children birth to age three learn the importance of brain development during the early years . The Basics are five free , fun , simple , and powerful strategies that every family can use to give every child a strong start beginning at birth . The strategies encompass most of what experts say is essential for development during the first few years . The Basics Strategies do not require fancy toys , and they do not take any extra time . Instead , families can use them during the time they spend in their children ’ s regular daily routines . These simple tasks should be daily and intentional to help eradicate skill gaps and build a solid foundation for cognitive , social , and emotional skills for lifelong benefits .

Emerging Leaders are tomorrow ’ s community leaders and philanthropists . UWSWA gives them the chance to serve , connect , and grow .
Founded in 2002 , Women United harnesses the power and dedication of women leaders in our area to transform our communities in Southwest Alabama .
The Alexis de Tocqueville Society of Southwest Alabama is comprised of local leaders and community philanthropists who are committed to impacting the quality of life in the community .
